Innovasea Joins NEOM Initiative with Cutting-Edge Fully Submersible Pens

Innovasea, a global leader in technologically advanced aquatic solutions for aquaculture and fish tracking, announced today it is installing submersible aquaculture systems in the Red Sea as part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s NEOM project in partnership with Topian, the NEOM Food Company.

The installation of Innovasea’s fully submersible SeaProtean Pens will mark the first time this revolutionary net pen will be deployed in the region. The structure, made from high-density polyethylene, features the industry’s leading buoyancy-control system, allowing operators to smoothly move it to the desired thermocline for ideal fish health.

With the SeaProtean Pen, Topian operators can now effectively and efficiently grow fish with systems hidden below the surface to preserve the sea’s natural beauty and guard against the region’s intense heat.

“The SeaProtean Pen is engineered to support fish in extreme environments, such as the high surface temperatures of the Red Sea,” said Innovasea SVP Langley Gace. “By using fully submersible pens, our clients can now expand aquaculture into regions previously deemed unfeasible.”

Furthermore, the pens will be outfitted with the latest, most advanced technology in precision aquaculture to ensure optimal performance. This includes environmental sensors to monitor changing water conditions, BiomassPro for accurate growth projections, high-definition cameras for full visibility into underwater operations, and the Innovasea FlowFeeder™ waterborne feeding system, which allows operators to automatically and remotely deliver feed to fish below the surface. This setup will cut feed waste, reduce energy costs, and lower the number of lost feed days due to inclement weather.

Topian will also be able to track and optimize its entire facility through the Realfish Pro – a cloud-based solution that combines real-time data with powerful analytics to enable them to make precise, data-driven decisions.

“We are excited to collaborate with Topian, the NEOM Food Company, to bring the latest aquaculture technology to the region,” added Innovasea CEO David Kelly. “It’s an excellent opportunity to showcase the benefits of precision aquaculture and lay the groundwork for what could become a significant growth area.”

Food security is a key element of the NEOM project, with an emphasis on offering sustainable, high-quality nutrition. Topian’s aquacultural initiative will offer the region access to local fish populations and help reduce reliance on imports in an environmentally responsible way.

“Our partnership with Innovasea delivers on our vision of contributing to food security while protecting the marine environment,” said Juan Carlos Motamayor, CEO of Topian, the NEOM Food Company. “This breakthrough technology of the SeaProtean Pen is another example of how NEOM is leveraging the latest advancements to empower sustainability through innovative solutions.”
