Research with leading technology

The Innovasea Student Offer Program is designed to support graduate‑level aquatic research and help early‑career scientists experience the advantages of advanced acoustic telemetry. The program provides students with access to the most reliable and cutting‑edge fish tracking technology available today, enabling high‑quality data collection in both ocean and freshwater environments.

Annual award structure

Innovasea will award two full equipment systems each year, with selections made in March and September.

Application periods run from September-March & again from March-September. Each award includes $250 travel bursary & one (1) full system, consisting of the student’s choice of:

Option A:

  • Five (5) NexTrak R1 Receivers
  • Twenty (20) Increased Residency ID-Only Transmitters
  • One (1) Range Test Tag

Option B:

  • Five (5) NexTrak R1 Receivers
  • Ten (10) Increased Residency Sensor Tags
  • One (1) Range Test

Application criteria

To apply, students must meet the following requirements:

  1. Enrollment:
    Be registered full‑time in a graduate program (Master’s or PhD) in marine biology, fisheries science, ecology, environmental science, or a related aquatic research field.
  2. Research Abstract:
    Submit a short abstract (250–500 words) summarizing the research project, including:

    • Objectives
    • Study species and location
    • Methodology
    • Expected Outcomes
  3. Financial Need Statement:
    Provide a brief explanation of financial limitations and how Innovasea’s support will help enable the research.
