Compatibility in Acoustic Telemetry

Our Commitment

Innovasea is committed to developing solutions that enable the most widespread advancement of science across the globe. We prioritize data integrity, reliability and system performance and believe that compatibility with existing and future global telemetry equipment is paramount.

Generation 2 Code Map

Innovasea’s new 69 kHz code map acts as a bridge between existing and future technology. Gen2 enables telemetry at a global scale, providing vastly more sensor IDs than ever before with no more code map management, all while continuing to detect tags already in the water today.

  • Researchers no longer need to choose between MAP-114 or 115
  • Detects all existing and future Innovasea receivers and tags
  • Detects older code spaces including 1303 or R64k to enable compatibility with tags from all vendors
  • Detects OPi/OPs in Europe (OP activation and fee apply)

Generation 2 Compatibility Table

The newly released Generation 2 code map is compatible with all 69 kHz receivers capable of detecting MAP-114, MAP-115 and future Innovasea code spaces. Gen2 is available as a simple firmware update for most receiver models today.  All new technology will be delivered with Gen2 already installed. Learn more about the Gen2 upgrade in our Customer Support Community here.

*OPi/OPs is available in Europe only. Requires Gen2 update and OP activation, fee applies.

European Compatibility and Open Protocol

In 2022, ETN licensed Innovasea to become a vendor of Open Protocol compatible equipment. Innovasea is providing support to our customers deploying equipment in Europe with the following solutions:

  • New VR2Tx and VR2AR receivers with the researcher’s choice to set to different code maps: Innovasea’s Gen2, OP-only, or dual-mode (Gen2 + OPi/OPs)
  • OP-enabler for existing VR2W, VR2Tx and VR2AR (requires Gen2 update and OP activation, fee applies)
  • OP tags (V6 to V16, excluding predation tags)

Please note that NexTrak, Innovasea’s newest receiver, does not currently support OP.

We have received several questions regarding our position on ETN’s OP such as why we are only offering it in Europe. To find out and learn more, please visit our Open Protocol FAQ.
