About Mount Cook Alpine Salmon

Located in New Zealand, Mount Cook Alpine Salmon is an international producer of King Salmon. It is a fully integrated business, with six grow out farms, two hatcheries, and a processing plant. The salmon are farmed in hydro canals flowing with pure glacial freshwater, and Mount Cook Alpine Salmon has been awarded multiple certifications for environmentally responsible practices.

Challenge

To maximize production, Mount Cook Alpine Salmon meticulously monitors its feeding and growth process. Previously, this data was siloed within different systems, making it difficult for operators to gain a holistic view of their operations.

Without a central, connected system, staff wasted valuable time manually compiling data from multiple sources. This limited their ability to identify emerging trends, make timely adjustments or streamline the certification process.

Furthermore, it was difficult to validate the accuracy of their feed and growth models without access to the real-time data they collected through their dissolved oxygen and temperature (DOT) sensors.

Built for aquaculture, Farm360 seamlessly integrated with their existing systems, Innovasea’s optical dissolved oxygen and temperature (DOT) sensors, and warehouse data center: Microsoft’s Power BI.  This setup unlocked real-time insights across their operation – leading to improved efficiency, better growth tracking, and optimized resource management.

Now, employees at the facility can quickly record feedings, and report fish and pen updates, all from the Farm360 app. This information then syncs to a single, easy-to-use dashboard. There, operators can easily monitor water conditions, assign tasks, and track growth models. And with different permission options, Mount Cook Alpine Salmon can control user access to data.

Plus, if they have questions, a member of the Innovasea team is readily available to offer support and ensure they can maximize their setup.

“Farm360 has become an essential factor in growing our fish. The system is ingrained in our production and has allowed us to improve efficiency and meet our goals. Before, we had a wealth of data but no way to quickly review and analyze it. This hindered our ability to optimize growth.”
